There is a remarkable person here, and Crump should get credit for reintroducing him to the spotlight, even if it takes wading through disco and banality to get to him.
A lively but meandering doc that is more seduced by the scene than some viewers might like.
If Lopez's work - bold and expressive with striking use of colour and lines - wasn't enough to convince you, then the reverential talking heads would do it.
To see the taciturn Cunningham laugh out loud at the memory of his old friend makes it more than worthwhile.
The film effectively captures the magic of this magnetic, charming and flirtatious figure in the fashion industry.
A loving and accomplished tribute to a neglected icon of the 60s and 70s fashion scene whose drawings of models were as rebellious in their own way as campus sit-ins.
While the interviewees choke up remembering this, Crump never sentimentalises the story.
The Picasso of fashion is given his deserving due in this irresistibly seductive documentary, chronicling his inspirational-and very wild-life in the jungle of style.
Bill Cunningham steals all his scenes in this documentary celebrating fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez - and that's no small feat in a film that includes animated interviews with actor Jessica Lange and model Pat Cleveland.
A colourful documentary which revels in the eye candy of Lopez's bright, expressive drawings along with an abundance of fashion photography.
The archive visuals are a ball, yet the story is too skimpy to justify stretching this to feature length. It's like being told about an awesome party when you really just want to be there.
