More than "Act 2" of the proposed five, the film feels like an extended intermission, lacking focus, narrative impulse and any sense of urgency. [Full Review in Spanish]

Congratulations to Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald for being the first flat-out terrible product of the Harry Potter expanded universe.

No, it doesn't work. No, it's not, not even a little bit, good. But it's familiar.

If Rowling is determined to extend and expand her Wizarding World indefinitely, she's going to need to do better than these tedious and absurdly detailed footnotes.

The story works in its mythical grandiloquence and makes intelligible the reasons that lead each character to choose their place and prepare for the battle that is coming. [Full Review in Spanish]

If you are among those who possess no such knowledge, your only hope is to take a scholar with you and then spend the movie asking multiple who, what, when and where questions.

The Crimes of Grindelwald is a tiresome slog - but it ends well.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is much better than its predecessor in this Harry Potter-adjacent franchise, if only because it's a whole movie.

Somehow, and perhaps, by magic, the movie does indeed entertain - though you really need to be familiar with the writings of J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter lore to fully appreciate this prequel.

Remember how George Lucas wrote a Star Wars movie about trade disputes? Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is mostly about genealogy. Because kids love genealogy.

While it's often great fun to look at, "Crimes of Grindelwald" fails at what should be Rowling's great strength: storytelling. Three more to go, and an infusion of magic is desperately needed.

As a sequel, this latest entry is even more forgettable and will leave Potter fans scratching their heads as to what could have possibly gone so wrong.

Is it better than the one that came before it? No, but it is bigger and more action-packed. With the overstuffed story, there is a cold and calculating process at work, as the film gets bogged down with structure and plot.

The twists get twistier as the film hurtles toward a climax at Paris' Pere Lachaise Cemetery. But the getting there, which should be half the fun, turns out to be a bit of a slog. Fine for Pottermores, but a trial for us Muggles.

After Fantastic Beasts 2, J.K. Rowling should evaluate the road in which her wizarding world will go and analyze which voices will count. [Full Review in Spanish]

The Wizarding World returns with the same cinematographic marvel and with an extra dosage of spectacular and ambitious. [Full Review in Spanish]

Much more beautiful and visually attractive than its predecessor... [Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald] has elements that were not so fine-tuned in the first and that magician fans will enjoy [Full review in Spanish]

By the end, the movie has gotten so far away from its characters that the climax is basically blue fire fighting orange fire. All that fire, and no warmth.

The wonder of the wizarding world lives on in The Crimes of Grindelwald, even if its lackluster story leaves something to be desired

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is a deluge of gaudy visual effects with an incoherent plot. Red meat to the die-hard fans of writer J.K. Rowling, it will mystify everyone else.
